Internal software for game development company
Role: UI/UX designer
interface design • browser app • internal software
Overview
Plarium, a large game development company based in Ukraine, hired me as a UI/UX designer for their internal software development team. From September 2015 to December 2017, I worked on building the UI for a multi-modular internal software that managed various operations such as human resources, recruitment, organizational structure, asset management, and budget planning. The app also included modules for everyday employee activities like vacations, medical insurance, company news, gym memberships, and more.
My responsibilities included researching end-user needs, communicating directly with users to understand their workflows, and collaborating closely with them to finalize the interface design. I contributed to every stage of the interface development, from conceptualization to final design, as well as establishing a cohesive design system and conducting user testing with real users.

Responsibilities
• Building app interface from the ground up, focusing on architecture, navigation, and user journeys;
• Developing and presenting design concepts, wireframes, and final UI layouts;
• Creating a visual design system for the React JS component library;
• Conducting user testing, collecting feedback, and refining the UI based on real-world usage;
• Collaborating with end users, project managers, and developers to optimize the app for multiple departments across different countries.
Process
I joined a newly formed department dedicated to developing internal software for the company, where our mission was to build the browser app from scratch. We began by establishing the app's architecture and navigation, creating a foundation for a centralized system accessible to every employee.
As we progressed, we built an employee-facing app that included features like meeting room booking, medical insurance management, gym scheduling, and more. Following the successful adoption of the employee app, we moved on to creating modules for specific departments like HR, Recruitment, Finance, and Operations.
We developed these modules in close collaboration with end users, collecting feedback, refining the design, and conducting user testing to ensure the app met the unique needs of each department. Our development process was organized through Jira, with regular communication via Slack and gathered in meeting rooms. We initially created a component library in Angular JS before transitioning to React JS for the later modules, ensuring consistency across the app through an approved design system.
App functionality
• Unified access for all employees, with modules visible based on access roles (e.g., HR staff can't see Finance modules);
• Employee app modules: medical insurance, vacations, meeting room booking, car parking, gym/fitness courses, company news, employee contacts, and more;
• Internal app modules: company structure, HR, recruitment, asset management, organizational structure, budget planning, statistics, and more.
Result
In just over two years, our team successfully built a large, centralized, independent browser app tailored to the company's specific needs. This software replaced third-party tools for critical internal processes like budget planning and HR management, providing a unified platform for all employees to access corporate resources and manage their day-to-day activities.
